The origin story of the 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City is a tale involving two distinct venues. Consisting of a historic hotel and its accompanying restaurant, this stunning location has been in operation for more than a century. The hotel actually predates the restaurant, having occupied the site since 1888. It was founded by John and Charles Arbuckle, who rose in prominence throughout Kansas City due to the success of their business, the “Arbuckle Coffee Company.” To further enhance their economic prosperity, the brothers decided to construct an upscale hotel in the center of what is now the city’s financial district. The Arbuckles hired the architectural firm Van Burnt & Howe for the project, who subsequently designed the building with Art Nouveau-style architecture. When the Savoy Hotel debuted in the 1890s, the hotel featured a number of amazing features, including a magnificent series of stained-glass windows that are still present today.

Today, 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City features 120 beautifully renovated accommodations with high ceilings and large windows. Amenities include complimentary WiFi, 43" HDTV, Nespresso® coffee machine, minibar, and designer toiletries. Guests have access to a fitness center and a business center. There is no better amenity than the hotel’s 24- hour complimentary contemporary art museum, with curated, rotating exhibits.

Located at the entrance of the vibrant downtown district, the 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City is located between the Power and Light District and River Market. Travel by foot, by car, or by complimentary streetcar to various nearby locations, such as the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art or Kansas City Union Station. Whatever guests would like to explore in the city, the 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City is an ideal place to stay.

21c Museum Hotel Kansas City by MGallery, a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2019, dates back to 1888.

Fun FactA beautiful series of murals that Edward Holslag painted for the Savoy Grill in 1903 are still installed in the building. Known as The Savoy Murals, Holslag’s paintings illustrate the role that Kansas City played in the growth of the American West. The artwork is recognized in the Smithsonian Institution’s “Bicentennial Inventory of American Paintings” for their great cultural significance.
